School Social Worker
The social worker helps to identify and resolve social and emotional difficulties of students, which interfere with their adjustments, achievement and/or attendance in school. For example, the social worker works with MCSEC staff as well as regular education staff and administration to promote understanding of the student's needs, and those of his/her family. The social worker helps to mobilize families and local community resources by being a liaison between home, school, and community. The social worker may provide individual or group therapy to students, serve as a consultant to parents, teacher, and/or administrators. The social worker is often times found to be a member of the preassessment team, the multidisciplinary team, and the annual IEP (Individualized Education Plan) team.
